SUMMARY:2025 SIBC 10th Year Anniversary Bash

SUMMARY:Sunset Dolphin Cruise
DESCRIPTION:NOTE:  All boat trips are weather dependent.  Boat captains will determine if the trip can occur on the planned date based on current weather conditions and the safety of all passengers. \nSIBC members will travel by pontoon boat for a Sunset Dolphin Cruise on Wednesday evening\, Oct 15th\, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  We will depart Landings Harbor Marina\, and the route of our voyage will be determined by our charter boat Captain based on the latest dolphin sightings.  In the past we have left Landings Harbor Marina and gone south to the Wilmington River towards Wassaw Island’s North Beach and entered Romerly Marsh\, or turned north and gone up the Wilmington River to Turner Creek.   \nThis is a Bring-Your-Own Food and Drink event.  Small coolers and alcoholic beverages are allowed on the boat.  SIBC will not provide any refreshments. \n \nThis event has been a favorite of SIBC’s boating season in past years and is not to be missed. SUMMARY:Pin Point Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:Located in the former A.S. Varn & Son Oyster and Crab Factory\, the Pin Point Heritage Museum celebrates the life\, work\, and history of coastal Georgia’s rich Gullah-Geechee community that calls Pin Point home.  \n \nDuring our guided tour\, we’ll develop an understanding of the historical experience of growing up in Pin Point\, a community founded by formerly-enslaved African Americans and their descendants in the 1890s.  The museum’s exhibits focus on religion\, language\, food\, and more\, featuring the stories of residents who grew up in this small\, close-knit community.  Highlights include: \n\nThe journey from Africa to Pin Point\, the struggle to own land after Emancipation\, and the Gullah-Geechee culture that developed\nThe founding of the Pin Point community\, what it is like to grow up there\, and what the future holds\nThe importance of the surrounding marshes and rivers to the livelihood of the community\nThe life cycle of the blue crab and oyster\, how they were harvested\, and who participated in this activity\nHow blue crab and oysters were processed and the people who worked in the factory\nA viewing of the award-winning documentary Take Me to the Water.\n\nOur 90-minute guided tour begins at 10:00AM.  We will meet in the large parking lot at Skidaway Island Methodist Church (54 Diamond Causeway) at 9:30AM to assemble and then carpool to Pin Point.  After the tour\, we’ll go to lunch at a selected restaurant in Sandfly (Castaways\, Driftaway Cafe\, or The 5 Spot). \nThe minimum required for the guided tour is 25.  We will have to cancel the event if we do not get at least 25 people to sign up.  The prepaid cost for the tour is $12 per person.   \nNOTE:  Lunch is optional and a personal cost to be paid at the restaurant. \nPlease RSVP no later than 8/19/25 by using the PayPal button below to purchase your ticket.  Your reservation is confirmed only after payment is received.  Reminder:  On the credit/debit card payment page\, replace the default SIBC email with your personal email. \n\nIf paying by check\, please notify Charlene Upton (408-425-0093) for delivery to Upton tube.   \nREFUNDS:  Anyone who purchases a ticket and then needs to cancel must do so by 8/19/25 in order to get a refund.  No refunds after 8/19/25.

DESCRIPTION:This event was canceled due to weather.\n\nNOTE:  All boat trips are weather dependent.  Boat captains will determine if the trip can occur on the planned date based on current weather conditions and the safety of all passengers. \nDesignated as a National Wildlife Refuge in 1969\, Wassaw Island is one of 15 barrier islands along the Georgia coast.  Located approximately 3 miles southeast of Skidaway Island and accessible only by boat\, Wassaw is largely an undeveloped island of salt marshes\, maritime forest\, tidal creeks\, and pristine beaches. \nTravel with us via flotilla from Delegal Marina to one of Wassaw’s beaches where we will moor the boats\, wade ashore with our supplies\, and set up camp for a half day of picnicking\, beach walking\, socializing\, and simply enjoying nature at its finest.   \nWe will meet at Delegal Marina at 10:00am to load the boats and then cruise to Wassaw.  We plan to return to Delegal by 4:00pm\, weather permitting.  This is a bring-your-own food and drink event.   \n \nThe maximum number of passengers for this event is 25 people.  The prepaid cost is $10 per person to cover boat fuel.   \nPlease RSVP no later than Tuesday\, 6/10/25\, by using the PayPal button below to purchase your ticket.  Your reservation is confirmed only after payment is received.  Reminder:  On the credit/debit card payment page\, replace the default SIBC email with your personal email. \n\n\nIf you are unable to purchase a ticket due to a sellout\, please email Hugh Upton (hughandcharlene@gmail.com) to get on the waitlist.  Once on the waitlist\, you will be notified if a ticket becomes available.

DESCRIPTION:Take a unique behind-the-scenes tour of Thunderbolt Marine\, a full service yacht repair and refit facility located on the Wilmington River just outside Savannah\, GA.  Marine staff will highlight the facility’s capabilities for high-quality maintenance and repair work on all sizes of boats and sailboats\, including mega yachts. \nSIBC will carpool from the Skidaway Island Methodist Church parking lot (54 Diamond Causeway) at 3:00 pm to arrive at Thunderbolt Marine for the tour at 4:00 pm. Following the tour (at approximately 5:30 pm)\, we plan on having dinner at Tubby’s Tank House. DESCRIPTION:Join us on March 7th as we take two cruisers from the Landings Harbor Marina at 10:00am to the dock at the Westin Savannah Harbor where we’ll have lunch.  After lunch\, we’ll walk next door to the Savannah Convention Center for the Savannah Boat Show.  We plan to be at the Boat Show for two hours and then return to Landings Harbor Marina by 5:00pm.   \nThe prepaid cost in advance is $15 for boat gas.  You can write a check to SIBC and mail it to 16 Middle Marsh Retreat or place the check in an envelope in our tube.  \nThe cost of lunch and the $12 per person entry fee to the Boat Show are on your own. \nSpace on the cruisers is limited to 12 individuals\, so this is a first come\, first serve event.  Please RSVP to Hugh Upton at hughandcharlene@gmail.com by February 28th.  Your RSVP is not confirmed until the $15 payment is received. \nIf the cruise boats are full\, you can always drive to the Westin Savannah Harbor and meet us for lunch at 12:00 noon. \nHope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Tybee Island Marine Science Center & Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an island ecology experience at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center.  Our adventure includes a one-hour guided walk along Tybee’s north beach by a marine science educator who discusses topics such as the dynamics of Georgia’s barrier islands\, the intertidal zone\, forces behind tides and waves\, and sand dune formation. The second hour is spent at the Center for a presentation about the lives of the various sea turtles that nest on Georgia’s coastal beaches as well as a guided tour of the Center’s Coastal Galleries through live animal exhibits\, interactive stations\, life-size animal replicas\, and the Fossil Room. \nThis event is $15 per person and is limited to 20 participants. No cancellations. DESCRIPTION:Not to be missed!  The SIBC Year-End Bash is a catered dinner including beverages plus entertainment.  Dinner will be catered by one of the BEST in Savannah–Erica Davis Lowcountry!  Beer and wine will be served at the bar and water/sodas will also be available.  Live music is included to enhance our festive celebration. \nThe Year-End Bash is Tuesday\, November 12\, at the Delegal Sunset Pavilion from 5:00 pm until ~ 8:30 pm (or whenever the last member leaves).  This event will be a great closure to a great year for SIBC! \nCost is $25 per person.  We can accommodate a maximum of 90 people at the event.  TICKET SALES ARE NOW CLOSED.
