Pin Point Heritage Museum
Located in the former A.S. Varn & Son Oyster and Crab Factory, the Pin Point Heritage Museum celebrates the life, work, and history of coastal Georgia’s rich Gullah-Geechee community that calls Pin Point home.

During our guided tour, we’ll develop an understanding of the historical experience of growing up in Pin Point, a community founded by formerly-enslaved African Americans and their descendants in the 1890s. The museum’s exhibits focus on religion, language, food, and more, featuring the stories of residents who grew up in this small, close-knit community. Highlights include:
- The journey from Africa to Pin Point, the struggle to own land after Emancipation, and the Gullah-Geechee culture that developed
- The founding of the Pin Point community, what it is like to grow up there, and what the future holds
- The importance of the surrounding marshes and rivers to the livelihood of the community
- The life cycle of the blue crab and oyster, how they were harvested, and who participated in this activity
- How blue crab and oysters were processed and the people who worked in the factory
- A viewing of the award-winning documentary Take Me to the Water.
